Felix d'Eon

Felix d'Eon is a Mexican artist.  Above is Self-Portrait as Vitruvian Man.  But we're going to get to know him much more intimately than just a naked self-portrait.

He sketches and paints from live models, but he also works from photographs that he takes of his models.  This is a photo of model Dylan holding something to his mouth.

In the finished painting, Dylan is transformed into a faun, and the thing he was holding to his mouth is transformed into panpipes.

Not all of Felix's art is so innocent.  In fact, he has created a lot of erotic art.  Here's a photo of two models.

Felix posted the work in progress.  First, a sketch of the models.  Then a sombrero is added.

The finished piece is called Que Viva Zapata.  Emiliano Zapata was a hero of the Mexican Revolution of 1910-1920.  Although Zapata embodied Mexican machismo, it turns out that he was bisexual.  In 1906, before the revolution, he moved into the house of Ignacio de la Torre, son-in-law of the Mexican President, as a horse trainer.  Ignacio's wife wrote that her husband ignored her in favor of Zapata, and she caught the two having sex in the barn.

In addition to sketching them, he took photos of them.  Here they are a bit later in the same studio session.

And later still, things seem to be moving right along.  I don't know if any of these photos were later made into artworks.

Felix d'Eon is very prolific, and some of his erotic art features Felix himself.  We'll see that tomorrow.
