Kevin Lee

Kevin Lee, born in 1992, is an American mixed martial arts fighter.  In 2017 he fought Tony Ferguson at UFC 216 for the UFC lightweight championship at the T-Mobile Arena near Las Vegas.

Before the fight, Lee weighed in at 156 pounds, which was over the 155 pound limit.  He was given one hour to lose the weight.  Above, at his second weigh-in, he weighs 154.5 pounds.

The photographer's angle managed to catch Lee naked before he stepped on the scale.

The naked view of him was fleeting, so here's a screen grab of that moment.

How did Lee lose 1.5 pounds in an hour?  Actually, shortly before the fight he weighed 174 pounds, so he had to lose 19 pounds in a few days before the fight.  The answer was extreme dehydration.  "Put yourself in my shoes," he said.  "It's 8:00, the weigh-ins start at 9:00, and I've still got five pounds to cut; so they're literally throwing boiling water into the hot tub with me because I've got to get it off now, get it off quick."

In the end, he lost the fight.  However, his overall MMA record is 20 wins and 9 losses.

Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson, born in 1966, is a famous American boxer who competed from 1985 to 2005.  He was the world heavyweight champion.  He came out of retirement to fight Jake Paul on Nov. 15, 2024 in Arlington, Texas.  Above, Tyson weighs in for that fight.  He did not weigh in nude.  Tyson was 58 years old and Jake Paul was 27.  After 8 rounds, Tyson lost the fight on points.

Although Tyson did not weigh in nude, Netflix viewers got to see this glimpse of Tyson's butt in the locker room before the fight, above.

Weighing In - Part 87

Shootboxing Weigh-In

The video above shows an unashamed black fighter weighing in.  Oddly, he strips off his shorts but leaves on his socks.  None of the websites carrying this video listed the fighter's name, or even mentioned the date or place of the fight.

However, the sponsors' names in the background tell us something.  Que Sera Japon has been a corporate sponsor of shootboxing events in Japan.  Shootboxing is a combat sport combining kickboxing and wrestling.  Que Sera Japon sponsored events in 2015 and 2016 in Tokyo, which may have been when and where this weigh-in happened.

 Aleksandr Medved

Aleksandr Medved (1937-2024) was said to be the greatest freestyle wrestler of the 20th century.  He competed for Belarus in the Soviet Union.

He won 3 Olympic gold medals in 3 different weight classes, the only person to do so: light-heavyweight freestyle wrestling in 1964, heavyweight freestyle wrestling in 1968, and super-heavyweight freestyle wrestling in 1972.  Above, he wins his Olympic match in 1972.

This photo was labeled with his name, but not the date or event.  He must be weighing in, since everyone in the photo is looking down at the scale that he is presumably standing on.  We might be looking at something else.

Rey Trujillo

Reynaldo (Rey) Trujillo, born in 1982 and nicknamed "The Warrior", is an American MMA fighter based in Houston.  On Jan. 25, 2019 he fought Colin Wright for the featherweight title in the Fury Fighting Championship, an MMA event held in Houston.

Above, Rey weighs in for the fight.  He stripped behind a modesty cloth, but this video was taken from the side, and Rey's penis was visible.  It seems that didn't matter, because the video was apparently used to promote the event, as seen by the promotional wording at the bottom.

Here's a screen shot from the video.  I edited it to remove the annoying promotional wording, but I did not edit Rey's endowment.

Rey Trujillo lost the fight.  He has won 21 fights and lost 28.

Weighing In - Part 84

Dixon Flores

Dixon Flores is a Nicaraguan boxer.  This clip is from a longer video showing boxers weighing in for an event at Nuevo Gimnasio Nicarao in Managua, Nicaragua on July 29, 2017.  The longer video starts with the headliners for the event weighing in, not shown here.  Then the undercard boxers weigh in.  This clip shows one of them, Yamil Alcevedo, weighing in, but over on the side we see the boxer due to weigh in next, Dixon Flores, who has already stripped naked in preparation for weighing in.

After this clip, Flores weighs in nude, but the photographer aims the camera so we can only see him from the waist up, which is why I didn't include his weigh-in.  But we have already seen a nice view of him over on the side.

In this event, Dixon Flores fought Sergio Gonzalez, and the match was suspended after Gonzalez suffered a wound to his eyebrow, so neither of them won.  Dixon Flores' overall record is 17 wins and 13 losses.

Weighing In -- Part 83

Bobo Olson

Carl 'Bobo' Olson (1928-2002) was an American boxer who won the World Middleweight championship in 1953.  In 1955 he lost the title to Sugar Ray Robinson.  On May 18, 1956 Olson and Robinson fought a rematch, photographed by Allan Grant for LIFE magazine.

Above, Robinson (left) and Olson (right) shake hands.  Robinson is clearly not actually weighing in, since he is wearing shoes and socks.

Grant's photos show Robinson getting naked, though it's not clear whether it's for the weigh-in.

We only get an oblique view of Robinson's rear.

Here's Olson weighing in.  He must have been over the limit, because we see him next without his shorts.

An official held up a modesty cloth, but photographer Allan Grant was positioned to get a good view.  LIFE did not publish male frontal nudity, so this photo was never published, but it is in the LIFE archives.

Sugar Ray Robinson won this rematch.  Bobo Olson ended his career with 97 wins and 16 losses.

Weighing In - Part 82

Salvatore Burruni

Salvatore Burruni (1933-2004) was an Italian flyweight boxer.  In April, 1965 he won the World Flyweight title.  In November, 1965 he was stripped of the title when he refused to fight Hiroyuki Ebihara.

On June 14, 1966 Burruni fought Walter McGowan in Wembly, England, in a fight billed as defending the World Flyweight title, although Burruni no longer held the title.  At the beginning of this video we see Burruni weighing in naked in front of an audience.  There was no modesty shield.  At the end we see Burruni, who I think is still naked, smiling and waving to the all-male audience of sportswriters.

Burruni lost the fight.  His overall record was 99 wins and 9 losses.

Weighing In - Part 81

Andrew Cancio

Andrew Cancio is an American boxer born in 1988.  On Sept. 17, 2016, he fought against Joseph Diaz in Arlington, Texas for the WBC featherweight title.  While he was weighing in, a slight mishap occurred with the modesty cloth (above).

A slowed-down replay, above, shows us that Cancio actually caused the incident when, after raising his fist in triumph after weighing under the limit, he brought down his arm and accidentally hit the edge of the cloth.  Well, that's what makes things interesting.

Cancio lost this fight, but later won the WBA super featherweight title in 2019.  His overall record is 21 wins and 5 losses.

Weighing In - Part 80

Charles 'Krazy Horse' Bennett

Charles 'Krazy Horse' Bennett, born in 1979, is an American mixed martial arts fighter.  The video above shows him weighing in for a kickboxing match at the Shoot Boxing World Tournament in Tokyo on Nov. 11, 2016 at which he fought Japanese boxer Masaya.  No modesty cloth here, and no false modesty.

 

Weighing In - Part 79

Tadeas Ruzicka

Tadeas Ruzicka, born in 1997, is a Czech kickboxer.

Ruzicka competed as a light middleweight at the W5 Grand Prix Kitek 32 event in Moscow in April 2016.

While weighing in, he was slightly over the weight limit and had to strip off his shorts.

Here he covers up, but we got a peek at him.  No need to cover up, Tadeas!  You're looking good!

Ruzicka went on to fight Sergey Chadon.  Chadon won.

Weighing In - Part 78

 Clifford Starks

Clifford Starks (born 1981) is an American mixed martial arts fighter who competes as a Middleweight.  At the UFC 137 event in Las Vegas in 2011, he did not strip naked to weigh in, but as he was stripping down to his undershorts, the camera caught sight of something (above).

He won the fight against Dustin Jacoby.  In an interview afterwards, he was happy with the fight, and he joked that while weighing in he had "let it all hang out."  Well, it happens.

Starks' overall record is 14 wins and 5 losses.

Weighing In - Part 77

 Davey Moore, Johannesburg 1982

Above is a video of American boxer Davey Moore (1959-1988) weighing in for a fight against Charlie Weir in Johannesburg, South Africa on April 26, 1982.  Moore was fighting as a light middleweight, and he was over the 154 lb. (69.9 kg) weight limit, so he stripped and got weighed again, which is what we're looking at.  There was no modesty towel for the weigh-in.  Moore said "No women in here?" before stepping up to the scale.  He wasn't concerned about men seeing him. 

Moore was still slightly over the weight limit, by less than half a pound, which he was able to lose before the fight.

At the time, Moore held the WBA light middleweight title.  He won this fight against Weir and kept his title.  His lifetime record was 18 wins, 5 losses.

A few years later, in 1988, Davey Moore was at home in Holmdel, NJ, when his car, an unoccupied SUV, started rolling down his driveway.  Moore tried to stop it, but he slipped on wet ground, was dragged under the car, and was crushed to death at age 28.

Harry Scarff

"Horrible" Harry Scarff is an English boxer, born in 1993.  Above, we see him weighing in for his fight against Jack Flatley on Sept. 28, 2019.  Flatley was previously undefeated and held the English super-welterweight title.

There was no modesty shield.  Scarff didn't care; he just started stripping.  The attendant had to take off his jacket to provide a modesty shield.

Meanwhile, we got a nice rear view of Scarff.  In the ensuing fight, Scarff won by unanimous decision, capturing the English super-welterweight title.  Scarff's record to date is 13 wins and 4 losses.

Weighing In - Part 75

 Zurab Noniashvili

Zurab Noniashvili, born in 1984, is a boxer from Georgia.  Not the state of Georgia; the country Georgia, located between Russia and Turkey.  He competed professionally from 2005 to 2018.  He was a contender for the Georgian heavyweight title in 2012.

Above, we see him weighing in with his pants down.  Because he was a heavyweight, with no upper weight limit, he would not need to lose his pants to weigh in.  Did someone "pants" him on the scale?  That might not be a smart thing to do to a heavyweight boxer.

The poster behind him identifies the event as "Price vs Sexton", which took place in Liverpool, England in 2012.  Noniashvili fought against Jamaican boxer Dillian Whyte.  Whyte won.  Noniashvili's overall record is 13 wins and 13 losses.

This weigh-in happened at a New England Fights (NEF) MMA event called Promised Land on June 17, 2016.  After he weighed in, someone called over to the officials that they might want to move the towel a bit to block the camera.

Weighing In - Part 73

 Marek Bartl

Marek Bartl is a Czech MMA fighter.  At the Oktagon 64 event on Dec. 7, 2024, he had to weigh in naked.  The facility provided a kind of circular curtain to be raised around him, but Bartl began pulling down his shorts before the attendants could raise the circular curtain (above).

Although it was brief, it was captured on video.  Here are some screen captures of Bartl pulling down his shorts ...

By the way, Bartl won that fight, and his overall record is 15 wins and 14 losses.

Weighing In - Part 72

Frederik Ekstrøm

In 2009, Danish wrestler Frederik Ekstrøm was photographed weighing in for the Yadegar Imam Cup in Qom, Iran, above.  No modesty towel here.  I presume that no women were allowed in this location to see naked men, but Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei (portrait on the wall) sees everything.

I cropped the photo to remove Khamenei.  That's better.

Nick Heynen

Nick Heynen, nicknamed "The Hangman", is a Canadian MMA fighter born in 1983.  Above, he weighs in at the Aggression MMA 9 event in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on July 11, 2012.  He had to weigh in naked, but unfortunately for us, he was concealed behind a cloth.

However, after the weigh-in, Nick calmly proceeded to put his pants back on in the background with no cloth to block our view of him, above.

Nick fought in the lightweight class.  In this event, he fought Stephen Beaumont and lost.  His overall fight record was 4 wins and 3 losses.
