Princeton

We've already seen Princeton's tradition of holding the Nude Olympics after the first snowfall.  Today we look at some other Princeton naked traditions.  Above, Princeton rugby players in 1982 during their annual Jock Run.  Every year after the last spring practice, the rugby players strip down to their jockstraps and run around campus.

Eating clubs are an institution at Princeton.  Princeton does not have fraternities, but it has private eating clubs, which serve as dining halls and social houses for the majority of upperclassmen.

The photo above and the next three were taken at an eating club in 1987-1990 by Nelson Hancock, Princeton '90.  Above, a student crowd surfs naked.  This might have happened during the spring "bicker", when sophomores compete to be accepted at an eating club, a process which is said to vary from club to club from staid interviews to raucous games.  Or it might have been some other social event.

Whatever it was, it involved a lot of naked crowd surfing.

Of course, Princeton is a leading institution of learning and culture.  Above is a statue on the campus called Abraham and Isaac.  Only problem: does the thing sticking out of the guy on the left, which is supposed to a dagger, look like something else to you?  The statue is widely known on campus as the "blowjob statue."

Today we show another nøgenløb (naked race), the opening event of the annual Kapsejlads spring festival at Aarhus University in Aarhus, Denmark.  The runners, mostly male but with a few females, run a course that goes around the side of a pond. Then they jump into the pond and swim across. The first one to make it to the other side of the pond wins.

College Streaking - Part 50

 University of Vermont Naked Bike Ride

The University of Vermont (UVM) has a streaking tradition called the Naked Bike Ride.  This is not one of the World Naked Bike Ride events held in cities around the world.  It's a UVM tradition that started in 1996 by an undergraduate woman, Erica Kutcher, and a friend who rode naked on the last day of classes of the fall semester.  Later the event expanded to include the last day of classes of the spring semester as well.  Not everyone rides a bike.  Some just run along with the bike riders (above, on Dec. 8, 2011).

Of course, Vermont being Vermont, the last day of the fall semester is not very balmy.  Above, a crowd gathers to watch the naked bike ride in a snowstorm in 2012.  I don't think many students participated naked that day.

The end of the spring semester is much more conducive to naked fun outdoors.  Above, part of the naked bike ride in the spring of 2007.

And here's a short sequence of the naked bike ride in the spring of 2009.  In 2008, the whole event was in danger of being cancelled because of incidents of women being harassed and assaulted.  Student volunteers now monitor the event, and it is considered safe again.  The UVM Naked Bike Ride tradition continues to this day.

Interestingly, it is not illegal to be nude in public in Burlington, Vermont, where UVM is located, but it is illegal to disrobe in public.  So, as long as the UVM students strip indoors, it's perfectly legal for them to run around naked outdoors.
