Left Handers Day
August 13 is Left Handers Day. To celebrate, we'll show some lefties today, starting with this gif made from Muybridge Plate 343, a photo sequence called Nude Man Striking a Blow with Left Hand, published in Eadweard Muybridge's 1887 book Animal Locomotion.

About 10% of the population is naturally left handed. I have always thought that fact provides an excellent argument to use against people who think sexual orientation is a choice.
Of course, science tells us that sexual orientation is not a choice. The religious right does not believe that, since they have been brainwashed and do not believe science.
But for people who aren't religious fanatics, here's my argument:
People do not choose to be left handed. They just are, and 10% of the population turn out that way. It's not a matter of choice.
Likewise, people do not choose to be gay. They just are, and perhaps 5% of the population turn out that way.
Forcing young gay people to go to "conversion" workshops to convert them to be straight makes as much sense as forcing left-handed people to go to workshops to convert them to be right-handed.
Yes, left-handed people could be forced to use their right hand, though for things like signing their name, the results might not be pretty. Why not let natural lefties be lefties?
And why not let people who are naturally gay be gay?

Agreed. And because I am developing arthritis in my right hand (probably from too much JO - no that's not possible!) I am doing more computer mouse and JO with my left hand. Soon I will be ambidextrous. I hope.
I'm one of those. And, yep, had me hand tied behind my back, made to sit on it so I couldn't use it, and add the nun's rulers. Now, I'm sort of ambidextrous with this weird mixture of ability.
I'm not ambidextrous, but I eat and write with my left hand, and do everything else with my right hand.
I'm ambidextrous but I write with my right hand.
On all day stuff I often use my left hand more than my right one.
As an fine art teacher, I often saw left handed students to be more imaginative and creative too.
This is a side effect as the right brain is the part of creative and it's also the one acting the left handed people.
For me, I'm also an artist and maybe my over acting right brain could explain it too..
My mom is left handed, and apparently I was headed that way, but early on she forced me to be right handed (I don't remember that, so it was very early). I remember as a kid, the doc told me I was left eyed, and the mix was one of the reasons I was bad at sports. It would have been nice if I'd ended up ambidextrous, but no such luck, in general.

My painting teacher (now deceased) was born left handed and forced to be use his right hand by school teachers. As an adult he told me he used his right hand to write checks and letters, but used his left hand to paint and stroke cheeks
I’m semi ambidextrous as I can do some things just as well with my left hand as my right.
