Auguries of Innocence

Auguries of Innocence is a long poem by William Blake, thought to have been written in 1803 though not published until much later.  It is most famous for its first four lines, which I have illustrated here with pictures that may not quite fit the "innocence" in Blake's title.

To see a World in a Grain of Sand

And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,

Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand

And Eternity in an hour.
