Laurits Tuxen
Laurits Tuxen (1853-1927) was a Danish painter and sculptor. Above, a self-portrait in 1915.
Tuxen painted landscapes and portraits of European royalty, including the royal families of Denmark, England, and Russia, but he also managed to produce some male nudes. Above, Model Study in the Studio of Bonnat, 1877.
He did several academic drawings of male nudes, like the one above from 1876.
Academic Drawing of a Standing Male Nude, 1877.
This 1880 study of a standing male nude is interesting because ...
on the back of it is another drawing of a male nude.
This undated painting is called Herre og dame, to nøgenmodeller (Man and woman, two nude models).
And this is Studies of a Standing Man, 1875-1880.
This late painting (1918) is called Landscape with Figures Bathing, but it was also marked "Santa Barbara". I don't think Tuxen ever visited California. There is a Santa Barbara in Spain that might be the location.
We end with this mythological scene c. 1900 called Musical Duel Between Pan and Apollo. Apollo is depicted modestly, but apparently Pan is unashamed. I got this image from Vellohomo. Gracias, Franco!
Tuxen died in 1927, aged 73.
