Poem of the Day - Part 34

 Doctor Foster Went to Gloucester

                                        Doctor Foster went to Gloucester
                                        In a shower of rain;

                                        He stepped in a puddle

(Favorite unashamed male Nudist Jeff by a puddle in Australia)

                                        Right up to his middle
                                        And never went there again.

Note: This nursery rhyme was first published in 1844, but some people think it is much older.  One theory is that it is based on a journey of King Edward I to Gloucester in the 13th century.  Edward reportedly fell off his horse into a puddle and refused to go to Gloucester again.

Another theory is that, since "puddle" doesn't rhyme with "middle," the original may have been

                                        He stepped in a piddle
                                        Right up to his middle

Apparently an archaic meaning of "piddle" was a stream.  Today, of course, "piddle" means something else, like the guy above, who apparently doesn't mind us watching him piddle.  Hi, there!
