College Streaking - Part 28

Round 2
Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia

Continuing my second round of photos of the 1974 college streaking craze.

University of Connecticut, Storrs, from the 1974 yearbook Nutmeg.

University of Connecticut, from the 1974 yearbook Nutmeg.

Connecticut College, New London, March 21, 1974.

University of Delaware, Newark, from the 1974 yearbook Blue Hen.

Florida International University, Miami.  The clipping is from 1975, but the photo is captioned "a year ago."

University of South Florida, Tampa, March 6, 1974.

Armstrong State College, Savannah, Georgia, from the 1974 yearbook Geechee.

We end with excerpts from a video about the "big streak" at the University of Georgia, Athens. 1,543 students took part in a mass streak on March 7, 1974, setting a record for the number of streakers.

Most streaker coverage avoided full-frontal images, but there quite a few of them in this video.  Plus a comment by then-Governor of Georgia Jimmy Carter.

More college streakers to come.  Stay tuned.

They did it for fun, but it was a fad. Nobody can explain why a fad becomes popular and then suddenly dies out. Why was swallowing goldfish a fad in the 1930s? Why was cramming as many people as possible into a phone booth a fad in the 1950s? Why was the hula hoop a fad in 1958? Why was college streaking a fad in 1974?
