Tambaba Open 2018
Praia Tambaba, or Tambaba Beach, is a beautiful beach in the northeastern Brazilian state of Paraiba. There is a clothed beach and a nude beach, but unlike American and European nude beaches, which are clothing optional, clothing is forbidden on this nude beach. This sign on the stairs leading down to the beach says "Naturism begins here. Municipal law 256/2002 prohibits the use of clothing."
This beach is the site of the Tambaba Open, one of the world's biggest nude surfing competitions, sponsored by SONATA, the Sociedade Naturista de Tambaba (Tambaba Naturist Society) and the Brazilian Federation of Naturism.
We've seen some of these competitions before. Today we look at the 11th Tambaba Open, held in September 2018.
Nudity is required on this beach, so even the photographers of the surfing contest have to be naked (above).
And the spectators have to be naked (above), and the judges of the competition have to be naked.

Before the main event, surfing contestants are allowed to do some practice surfing to get a feel for the site.

Most of the photos of this event avoided frontal views, but this one captured a well-hung contestant.
For the actual competition, contestants put on colored "Tambaba Open" T-shirts, which would normally be forbidden on the nude beach, to help the judges distinguish who's who out on the waves.
We end with some half-dressed contestants heading out into the surf.

Are there any other places in the world where surfers surf naked, like the ancient Polynesians did?
