Hiking - Part 61

Wild Horse Monument

Today's post is about Wild Horse Monument near Vantage, Washington.  It's not really a hike, other than the short trail from the parking area up to the ridge, above, that Jim Tighe is starting.

Once at the top of the ridge, Jim got naked, as he loves to do when hiking.

The site overlooks the Columbia River and Interstate 90 and is visible from miles around.

It's a public sculpture consisting of 15 life-size steel horses.

The sculpture was made by David Govedare in 1989-1990 and given to the state to commemorate the centennial of Washington statehood in 1989.

It's also a memorial to the wild horses that once roamed the area.  The last great roundup of wild horses took place in this area in 1906.

Here Jim is running along with the horses, seen from  the front ...

and from the rear.  Jim publishes his photos on Flickr without copyright restrictions so that people like me can use them.  Thanks, Jim!

This is a good site-response to this art. They are unashamed and naked and running, and so is he. I would not like to run barefoot on those rocks though!
