Events - Part 63

Nakukymppi

Nakukymppi is a naked 10 kilometer run in Finland, held in the countryside about 80 miles north of Helsinki.

Participants are only allowed to wear shoes, socks and hats.  Women can wear a top if their breasts are jiggling too much.

These unusual participants in 2014 were body-painted to match the Swedish flag (left) and the Danish flag (right).  Most participants are not body-painted.

Most participants are simply naked.

The run was started in 2003 by Aarne Heino and has been held one week before midsummer each year since then except during the COVID epidemic.  The number of runners has grown from a handful to about 150.  80% to 90% of the runners are men.  Although the event is not organized by naturists, half the participants are naturists.

The sign on their back says "Finland 100", celebrating the 100th anniversary of Finnish independence in 2017 (before 1917, Finland was part of the Russian Empire).

The route goes around a loop slightly over 3 km three times for a total of 10 km.  It starts at 7:30 pm, and everyone must finish by 9:30 pm.  It's still light out.  Near midsummer in Finland, the sun doesn't set until nearly 11:00 pm (and in the far north of Finland, the sun doesn't set at all in midsummer and there's daylight 24 hours a day).

Participants can run or walk, and everyone who starts the run gets a certificate, whether they do the full 10K or not.

Above, Joni Lähdesmäki on his first Nakukymppi in 2019.  I like the heart shaved into his chest hair.

And they're off!  This is the start of the race in 2018.

We end with two guys in the 2018 race congratulating each other – or maybe just doing a little naked hugging.

I'm amazed at how many different naked things there are around the world.

OK, the women are allowed to wear tops if their breasts jiggle too much. Don't nude males also have possible issues with things jiggling too much? On the other hand, it's nice to know males are not allowed to cover their jiggling penises!

By definition, wouldn't 100% of participants be naturist?

Just being naked in one event doesn't make you a naturist. Naturism is a lifestyle of being naked all the time or at least as often as possible.

The picture with Suomi 100 text is most likely from 2017 when we celebrated our hundredth year of independence.

@Preacher - The photo is from 2017, and I have corrected the photo caption. Thank you.

It would appear that Finns are well endowed.
