Jules Bacon
Jules Bacon won the Mr. America contest in 1943 at the age of 26. Above, Bacon with the Mr. America trophy.
Soon afterwards, Strength & Health magazine featured him on their cover with an obviously painted-on jockstrap.
Here's the original photo of Bacon without the jockstrap, probably taken by physique photographer Lon of New York.
The remaining photos of Jules Bacon in this post were taken by physique photographer Al Urban.
Bacon began weight training in 1935 at age 18 after a boyhood friend accidentally shot him in the buttocks with a .22 caliber pistol.
In this derriere shot, he appears to have recovered nicely from that accident.
And his frontal view was equally attractive.
At the time of the 1943 Mr. America contest, Bacon was 5'7" tall ...
weighed 175 pounds ...
and his upper arms measured 16 inches.
Bacon was a sterling example of what a small-boned bodybuilder could accomplish.
We end with the classic "make a muscle" pose.
Jules Bacon was inducted into the IFBB (International Fitness and Bodybuilding Federation) hall of fame in 2006. He died in 2007 at age 89.

It never fails to amaze me that contest winners were willing to strip right down for photographers. The pay could not have been all that good. Granted, being naked in all-male company was totally acceptable. But who saw the pictures? Yes, homosexual men, among others. But would women have had - or wanted - access to them? Anyway, I fully appreciate being able to see a man like this in full male glory. His body is magnificent, he's handsome, and his peter and scrotum are fine examples of male glory. Thanks, Larry! Bel homme Jules Bacon, fier de son physique. Une époque de physiques naturels. :)
Until I discovered your blog, I was rather unaware that so much photography of naked men existed.
He's quite accomplished.
