Burma Shave
Today we start a mini-series on Burma Shave signs. In 1926, the Burma Shave company started putting up advertising signs along American highways. At first, the signs merely advertised the company's product: a brushless shaving cream. The message was posted as a series of signs along the side of the road, spaced about 100 feet apart. By the 1930s the signs had evolved into little rhymes, sometimes touting the product, sometimes asking the driver to drive carefully or not to speed, but always with a bit of humor and always ending with the sign "Burma Shave."
The series above, on U.S. Rt. 64 in Arkansas, is typical:
never come
Following are some more Burma Shave rhymes that I have illustrated with photos of guys shaving and other appropriate photos.

Really cool!
I really miss those signs. Some I saw rather frequently, but sometimes I would discover new ones as I went on different roads. I saw the last ones in 1963, before moving to Alaska.
I enjoy watching a handsome man shaving....especially if he's completely naked.
I remember those signs!
These signs were part of the entertainment for us as children in the 1940's and 1950's. Great memories.
Fuck me! But first guy above, way back in 1933, is hot, hot, SHIT-HOT!
In the same vein, 6 consecutive signs along Germantown Pk. in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania:

@Khakibum - The dates are the dates of the Burma-Shave verses. The photos are recent. But yes, he's hot.
Thanks, U.M. Yes, that makes more sense. It doesn't look anywhere near as old as I'd first thought.
This reminds me of watching my dad shave every morning as a kid
