Vernal Equinox 2024

Vernal Equinox

Today is the Vernal Equinox, the beginning of Spring, in the U.S.  (In Europe it falls on March 20th this year.)  It's always a joyful time to know that winter is over and it's time for flowers to bloom.

Depending on where you live, the flowers may be different.  In the North, crocuses may still be blooming (above).

In many areas the daffodils are in bloom.

In Texas, it's time for the wild bluebonnets.

On a mountain summit in Arizona, above, spring flowers bloom later than they do down below.

English daisies are blooming in this photo labeled "Springtime."

This photo was labeled "Spring is in the air," by favorite unashamed male Nudist Jeff.  Jeff lives in Australia, so spring there is autumn in the U.S.  Nevertheless, I'm including it here with the other spring flowers.

This photo was labeled "Spring is here," but there's nary a flower in sight.  But even if the flowers haven't sprung up, something else has.

We end with some springtime artworks. Above, Frühling (Spring) by Austrian artist Koloman Moser, 1900, captures the exuberance of springtime.

Call of the Wild by Alessio Slonimsky, 2017, features spring flowers and something that somehow reminds me of Easter eggs (Easter being right around the corner).

Finally, C'est le Printemps (It's Spring), 2023, by David Gilson, author of the Un Minet Pour Matou books, depicts his character Matou, who is much more alluring than the flowers.
