Phallic Rocks
A while ago, I posted this photo of a rock called the Phallus in Arches National Park. I think this 100-foot tall penis may take the prize for most realistically shaped phallic rock, but there are lots of other phallic rocks around the country and the world.
Above is another one in Arches National Park. The rock formation behind it on the right is Double Arch, a popular site in the park (I've been there). So this phallic rock has been seen by lots of people.
My previous post about the Phallus in the first photo said that it was visible from the main park road but easy to miss among miles of rocks and cliffs, and that they should make a turnout to point out the Phallus to visitors.
Well, the locals did just that for Cock Rock, above, in Carefree, Arizona, near Scottsdale. Even though it's lying down, not erect like most phallic rocks, it has a very suggestive shape, and it has become a local attraction, with a dirt turnout on the side of the road with room for several cars.
This rock is in Caruthers Canyon in Mohave National Preserve, California.
This one is in City of Rocks State Park in New Mexico.
Of course, the U.S. does not have a monopoly on phallic rocks. These are in the Cappadocia region of Turkey in a place called Love Valley (for obvious reasons). The rocks are called fairy chimneys. Fairy, possibly. Chimneys? I don't think so.
This is one of the formations called The Pinnacles in Nambung National Park, Western Australia.
Goblin Valley State Park in Utah has lots of interesting rock formations, including this one that an imaginative visitor took advantage of for a photo.
This guy is kissing Phallic Rock on the island of Molokai, Hawaii. It's a popular tourist attraction that can be visited by a short (5 minute) hike on the Kalaupapa Lookout Trail. Its Hawaiian name is Kaule o Nanahoa, or "Penis of Nanahoa." Nanahoa was a fertility god.
And this guy evidently likes to ride cock.
We end with these two guys climbing a phallic rock. I don't know the location. You've heard of tree huggers? How about cock huggers?
