Barinatxe Beach, Spain
Barinatxe Beach, above, also known as La Salvaje (The Wild). is a clothing-optional beach in Sopelana, near the city of Bilbao, in the Basque region of Spain. It's a nice beach, known for good surfing.
But our interest in it is the annual naked run that takes place there each July. It was started in 1999 by naturist and sportsman Patxi Ros. The Basque Naturist Association took over the race in 2003. Above, participants before the race in 2009.
Participants at the starting line. Over a hundred men, women and children participate, with separate races (and separate trophies) for men, men over 40, women, and children under 14. Prizes also include week-long stays at nudist colonies in Gran Canaria and Almeria.
And they're off! Rule #1 is: participants are only allowed to wear a cap or hat on the head, sun glasses, socks and footwear.
Rule #2 is: participants agree that they may be photographed by organizers of the race and legally authorized media present.
In this video, you can see runners going down the beach and then back again. Adults race 5000 meters; children race half that distance. May the winners enjoy a beautiful naked week at a nudist colony!

A great story and photos, thank you. I guess the guy with the heart rate monitor is taking it quite seriously, either that or he is worried about getting over-excited. 5000m is quite a long way to run naked, so the winner will deserve his prize.
A prize worth running for, that's for sure.
That's the spirit
