Bodybuilders - Part 18

 Marcel Rouet

Marcel Rouet (1909-1982) won the Mr. France competition in 1936.  He posed for a series of nude photos by Gregor Arax in 1946.

Arax photo 3.  I got this from Vintage Muscle Men.  Thanks, Jerry!

An Arax photo with a different background.

Rouet also posed for other photographers, like the photo above by V. Henry c. 1930.  I got this photo from Vintage Muscle Men.  Thanks, Jerry!

I found a series of photos of Rouet by Edmond Desbonnet.  These are not dated, but Desbonnet died in 1953, so they are before that date, and most likely from the 1940s.  Above, Desbonnet photo 1.

Desbonnet photo 2.  Someone has drawn a fig leaf onto the photo.

Desbonnet photo 3 of Rouet was in Wikimedia Commons as a negative, above.

I converted it into a positive photo.

Desbonnet photo 4 was likewise in Wikimedia Commons as the negative above ...

which I converted into this positive photo of Rouet in the pose of the discobolus, or discus thrower.

Marcel Rouet was not just a bodybuilder; he was the author of more than 50 books.  We end with his book Santé et Beauté Plastique, first published in 1936, explaining his ideas about bodybuilding, with a photo of Rouet on the cover.  The title means Health and Plastic Beauty, where plastic means capable of being molded or shaped.  The subtitle says "Complete course of physical and mental culture for obtaining a harmonious body in perfect balance."

Beautiful series, and I had not known that he was such a prolific author. Do you know if any of Rouet's books were translated into English?

Full nudes from the 1940s. I appreciate these unashamed men who were ahead of their times.

The first six photos almost look like someone decided he needed silent movie makeup, or perhaps sine they were French it was mime makeup.
