Olympics - Part 8

Olympics 1988, 1992

The 1988 Olympics were held in Seoul, South Korea.  Above, a Cambodian postage stamp celebrating the upcoming Seoul Olympics.

And this is a Hungarian coin for 500 Forints (worth about $10 in 1988) honoring the Seoul Olympics.

Now for the athletes who participated in the Seoul Olympics.  Above, Brazilian football player Romario.

1992 Olympics

The 1992 Olympics were held in Barcelona, Spain.  The poster above by Guillermo Perez Villalta oddly omits something that should be hanging between his legs.

A more conventional poster at least has a hint of male parts.

Athletes who competed in the 1992 Olympics included American weightlifter Mark Henry, above.

U.S. boxer Oscar de la Hoya won a gold medal in Barcelona.  Above, he weighs in at Caesar's Palace, Las Vegas.

U.S. tennis player Pete Sampras played in Barcelona.  Above, we see something peeking out.

American runner Michael Johnson won a gold medal in Barcelona, and went on to win gold at the 1996 and 2000 Olympics as well.

German discus thrower Lars Riedel.

Hungarian gymnast Szilveszter Csollany.

We end with American cyclist Lance Armstrong, who competed in Barcelona as well as the 2000 and 2004 Olympics.  Photo by Annie Leibovitz.

Next time: The 1996 Olympic Games.

Is any information available regarding the photo of Brazilian football player Romario? Looks as if he's running naked in front of a large crowd.

You've done something special to have Annie want to photograph you.

It’s a fake. Romario never runned naked on the field.

It's not from a public appearance, but it's really Romario. It's from a commercial that Romario did for Walkers crisps (not Lay's chips as the photo says). In the commercial, Romario gives his clothes to a boy in exchange for a bag of crisps, then runs naked toward the crowd to do a victory dance. Talking about the commercial, Romario said "It's a light-hearted humorous look at the world of football and it is important to be able to laugh at yourself."
