Fremont Solstice Parade - Part 2

Fremont Solstice Parade

The Fremont Solstice Parade happens today.  It's an event in Seattle that's scheduled on a weekend near the summer solstice.  The parade starts with a bike ride where most participants strip naked and paint their bodies.  Today's photos are from the 2019 parade.

Above, a bee.

An orange and a white tiger.  I presume they're together.

British Grenadier Guards.  I think that's supposed to the the Queen in front of them.

More Grenadier Guards.

Captain America seems to either have skates or a skateboard.

A unicyclist is temporarily dismounted

But then he's riding again.

Finally, we have a referee to keep order, and a Red Cross lifeguard to rescue us if the parade proves to be too much.

Is Fremont a part of Seattle?

They're going to have a chilly and possibly wet day of it today.

Unfortunately, we don't have anything like that in Fairbanks, Alaska. Not even close!

This event kicks off the "Naked Biking Season" here in the Pacific Northwest. It is so much fun to participate. It's real a HOOT! A fun lark is had by all the riders and everyone gets a kick out of it. One of the main draws of The Fremont Solstice Parade in Seattle has become the naked riders and their artwork.
The Solstice Parade is unique: No motorized vehicles or floats, so everything that comes down to route is pushed, pedaled, or carried; No written signage, express your concept through art or music; So no beer trucks, no car dealerships, political signs; donations to defray costs are collected as the parade moves along; it is run by a non-profit arts organization. All of this gives it a different very different feel. The craft booths, beer gardens, local businesses, art cars, etc all make for a super fun weekend.
Some of the superheroes appearing every year use in-line skates. The Silver Surfer uses a skateboard, of course. Our friend pictured above appears as a different superhero each year.

Come join us:
= Fremont Solstice Parade
= Body Pride Ride, in the Gay Pride Parade, Seattle
= Pedalpalooza & other Groups, Portland Oregon
-Naked Night Ride (Many hundreds riding)
-Naked day rides during the huge bicycle gathering
= WNBR - Portland, Oregon
= WNBR - Seattle, multiple rides & a night ride
= WNBR - Vancouver BC
= WNBR - Bellingham

I have not been on other rides farther down the coast & in CA. It is not as widely known that the Pacific Northwest offers this many opportunities to ride each year. Some events are very organized, some are spontaneous, other groups are more loosely formed through social media.

Greetings from West Seattle!
& Happy Biking
