Testicle Self-Check Ads
On the 15th of every month, my friend Pat reminds the readers of his blog Big Whack Attack to check their balls. Testicular cancer is the most common type of cancer for men age 15 to 35, but the cure rate is excellent (99%) if it is detected early, which is the reason to do a monthly self-check.
Unfortunately, the U.S. is so prudish about the naked body that ads and public information on this subject don't actually show testicles. For example, the illustration above is from the website of the Rio Grande Cancer Foundation, substituting a different kind of nuts in their photos.
The British are not so prudish. This is a billboard near Manchester, England.
A British advertising campaign called Checkum featured nude celebrities, with the slogan "The only person embarrassed by this is you." We previously saw the ad above featuring Australian rugby star Nick Youngquest.
Here's another Checkum ad featuring Dale Howard, a popular contestant on the TV show Big Brother UK.
Here's another ad for testicular self-examination, not part of the Checkum series. It features British actors (left to right) Daniel Boys, starring in the musical comedy Avenue Q, Ben James-Ellis, starring in Hairspray, and Ramin Karimloo, starring in The Phantom of the Opera.
But that's not all. The video above is from a British TV show, where the Moseley Rugby Club players are being taught how to check their balls. The video shows everything. The clear message is: if rugby players can check their balls, so can you.
We end with another British TV program, This Morning. Chris Hughes, who starred in the British reality show Love Island, gets his balls checked by a doctor who explains the procedure. Again, the British aren't prudish, and they show everything.
So, readers, check your balls once a month. It's easy, and it might save your life!

thanks! happy mongay & new week
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
This country is so uptight about men's bodies, it's frightening.
But of course the guys laughed. Because deep down when it comes to our genitals around one another guys turn into five-year olds.
Thanks for the mention, too!
We should be more like the British.
There is a joke running among us French guys about London City’s traders wearing fishnet stockings under their impecable suits.
Plaisanterie put aside, I have always been keen on the Brits’ natural way of discussing what may appear sensitive matters to other people. And it plainly shows in these two videos, especially the last one. I wish it’d be shown in science class in high schools, so that every growing adults - both male and female - would be aware of that, just as they should be about breast cancer.
Thank you for spreading that smart bit of awareness.
I love that first doctor!
