Ads - Part 21

 Beer Ads

You think of beer ads as being super-macho, possibly containing naked women but never naked men, right?  Well, think again!

Our first example is Bofferding beer, made in Luxembourg.  They did an ad campaign with the theme "Drink in the Boff."

Another Bofferding ad had both a naked man and woman, perhaps to appeal to the macho element.  By the way, this is the only product from Luxembourg that I've heard of.

Our second example is Astra beer, made in Hamburg, Germany.  They have run a bunch of macho ads with topless or near-topless women, but there have also been a few ads with naked guys.  This one is for their summer beer called Astra Nackt, or Naked Astra.  The title says: "Now in the summer, [be] naked more often."

This ad says: "Astra is: if one knows how to help himself."

This ad is for a beer variety called Astra Arschkalt.  The title says: "The main thing is Arschkalt."  Arschkalt is German slang for bitter cold, but literally it means ass cold.

This ad says "In front of the lion's den."  Note the sign for FC St. Pauli in the background, which refers to Football Club St. Pauli, one of two football (soccer) teams in Hamburg.  Since the title refers to it as the lion's den, I assume the guy in the ad is associated with the rival team, Hamburger SV.  In any case, he's frontally nude, something that you'd never see in an American ad.

Here are some excerpts from an Astra commercial showing a fictional fashion designer working naked to make naked fashions.  At the end, it says "inspired by Astra Nackt" (naked Astra beer).

We end with an ad for Ursus beer, made in Romania, showing a rear view of what appears to be the Green Giant with something hanging between his legs.

Unique and fun posting, Larry. Thanks. I've seen commercials on TV in Europe that would give our Cristian "guardians" a coronary.

Wonderful post! (I have a copy of the last image in the typical amber color, without a label.)

The last image is the necks of two beer bottles next to each other, but it looks like the butt and legs of a green giant, and hence the bottle in front looks like a ..... Its a very clever ad.

Don’t call him ‘the jolly green giant’ for nothing!,

The guy in the FC St Pauli photo is a German naturist and photographer named Tilmann Jorg and the photo looks like one of his own shots. Most are in a similar style with nude in the foreground and clothes in the background in various urban locations. He and his wife used to have a Tumblr page called Nude Germans but I think it's censored now. But you can still find his photos online occasionally elsewhere.
