Woodstock 94
Woodstock 94 was a music festival held on Aug. 12-14, 1994 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original Woodstock festival. It was held in upstate New York about 70 miles from the original Woodstock site. Neither festival was actually held in Woodstock, NY.
The first day, Friday, was hot and dry, and as usual, some people got naked to beat the heat.
The next day, storms rolled in, and the field where the festival was being held turned into a sea of mud.
Some people decided since the mud was unavoidable, they might as well enjoy it, like the folks on this mudslide, some clothed and some naked.
Here are some more mud lovers.
And some more. People were starting to call the festival "Mudstock."
Some more mud lovers. One of them seems to have found the mud quite exciting.
Just before the band Nine Inch Nails was scheduled to perform, bassist Danny Lohner pushed lead singer Trent Reznor into the mud. Reznor retaliated, and the other band members joined in for some mud wrestling. The band performed on stage covered with mud from head to toe (but not naked). Although they didn't think their mud-covered performance was very good, it won a Grammy award and made them famous.
For a naked Woodstock performance onstage, you'll have to wait for the Red Hot Chili Peppers at Woodstock 99. We'll cover that festival later. Stay tuned.

I read somewhere that due to inadequate sanitary facilities (not enough port-a-potties) that wasn’t just mud they were wallowing in.
I wish I had gone to the first Woodstock but, alas, I was too young. An iconic moment in history.
Great post!
