Performers - Part 8

Naked Boys Singing

Naked Boys Singing is a Vaudeville-stye musical revue.  In other words, it has no plot and just consists of a series of musical numbers that the actors sing and dance.  The gimmick, of course, is that the actors are all naked, so the show consists of naked boys singing.

Here's part of the opening song, Gratuitous Nudity.  The lyrics basically say, hey, folks, we know that the reason you're here is to see us naked.  The first line of the lyrics is:

Tonight, you'll finally get what you paid for

The source video that I took this from was obviously an unauthorized video taken by someone in the audience, and the song ends abruptly because the source video abruptly cuts to another song.  It is what it is.

Here's part of another song, I Beat My Meat, from the same source video, with another cut-off ending.  No, the actors don't beat their meat during the song.  They do slap their thighs and clap their hands at an accelerating pace to suggest the action that they're singing about, but the result is hardly erotic.  In fact, the whole show is completely non-erotic.  You very quickly get used to the fact that they're naked, after which it's just good old singing and dancing.

But, obviously, what draws the audiences is the fact that you get to see naked guys on stage (the songs aren't that great).  The show opened off-Broadway in 1999 and ran until 2012, and later that year the Provincetown version of the show opened off-Broadway, and it's still running today.

There’s also a movie version of the show which we saw in LA any years ago. Lots of energy, naked, unashamed energy of lots of young men singing and dancing naked. None of the songs is particularly memorable, but we had a pleasant evening.

The show can be a real hoot, actually. It depends on the direction/interpretation. I thoroughly enjoyed the production I saw.
But, there is no better example of being an Unashamed Male.
