Alberto Tomba

Alberto Tomba is an Italian skier born in 1966.  He skied for Italy in the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, winning gold in the Men's Giant Slalom and the Men's Slalom.  Then he skied in the 1992 Winter Olympics in the French Savoi, winning gold in the Men's Giant Slalom and silver in the Men's Slalom.  In 1994 he skied in the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway (above), winning silver in the Men's Slalom.  In 1998 he was in the Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, but he did not win any medals.

In 1995, a photographer released photos of Tomba naked in a sauna in 1988.  The photos quickly went viral. 

The photographer said that at an awards ceremony for the World Cup in Alta Badia, Italy, in December, 1995, Tomba took a crystal trophy cup that he had won and threw it at the photographer to punish him for releasing the photos.

The photographer said Tomba also threw a champagne bottle at him, and the trophy cup hit him but the bottle missed.

Tomba claimed that he was trying to throw the cup to his sister so it wouldn't be stolen, but he got pushed and the cup fell on the photographer.

Whether that's true or not, it looks like Tomba was happy to be photographed nude in 1988, and I'm glad we have these photos of this champion skier.
