Weighing In - Part 46

 Olympics

I recently came across this photo of South African boxer Willie Toweel weighing in stark naked at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki, Finland.  No false modesty back then.

That inspired me to post some other photos of Olympic athletes weighing in.  This is an unidentified wrestler at the 1948 London Olympics.

I've previously shown this photo of boxer Cassius Clay, who later became Muhammad Ali, weighing in at the 1960 Rome Olympics.

A series of photos from the 2008 Beijing Olympics did not identify the athletes weighing in, or what countries they were from.

The guy at left is from China, but the guy stripping has different colored pants, so he's probably from another country.

I don't know if the guy stripping on the left is the same guy on the left in the previous photo, but his pants are the same color, so he's Chinese.

We end with my only weigh-in photo from the 2008 Beijing Olympics that identified the athlete.  This is British boxer Joe Murray.

Notice that there are no females present. In those days, women were not allowed in men's sorts locker rooms. They should not be allowed in now. Male reporters must leave female locker rooms after 30 minutes so the women can shower and dress in privacy. Women reporters are not similarly restricted. I call that a double standard.

Not to dispute what you're saying, but I googled Willie and he looks a lot more like the guy in the towel third from right than the guy on the scales.

@ Hot Naked Men

In boxing weight is an advantage so you want to skate in at just under the maximum allowed. And why would you (or anyone really) *want* to wear underwear (or any clothes really) anyways? Be unashamed and naked whenever you can!

@Big Dude

There isn't anything wrong with being naked. But heterosexuals, I dunno, there's something wrong with them. Because really everyreporter should be able to go to either, it's the bad behavior of men that's the issue. But restricting women like men are restricted doesn't really benefit being unashamed and naked. I'm still in favor of allowing women even though it is unequal up to and until the heterosexuals stop doing stupid shit to each other.

@Big Dude - It’s not the bad behavior of male reporters that’s the issue. In 1978, after a female reporter sued because she was not allowed in Major League Baseball locker rooms but male reporters were, a court ruled that male and female reporters had to be treated equally. As a result, male teams, which had allowed male reporters in the locker room, had to also allow female reporters in. Some female teams do not allow either male or female reporters in the locker room; others allow reporters for a limited time but then both male and female reporters must leave. From the standpoint of the reporters, males and females are now treated equally. From the standpoint of the players, male players are exposed to the opposite sex while they’re naked, but female players are not. That’s a double standard in my book.

Willie Toweel appears as if he's on the auction block, for sale to the highest bidder. He's totally nude so interested "buyers" can know what they're getting. He certainly seems to be attracting a lot of attention.

At the end of every practice coach would record our weight. The saying - Don’t wear your towel. Be proud of your body.
