Hiking - Part 38

 Black Hills, South Dakota

The Black Hills in South Dakota are most famous for the Mount Rushmore National Memorial. It consists of a gigantic sculpture designed by sculptor Gutzon Borglum and carved into the granite mountain from 1927 to 1941. From left to right, it depicts presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.

OK, that was a fake photo, although a very good fake.  The rest of these photos are real.  There's much more to the Black Hills than Mount Rushmore.  Mount Rushmore is tucked inside the Black Hills National Forest, containing 1.2 million acres of wooded hills and mountains.

Above, a favorite swimming hole called Hippie Hole.

Here, a local resident points to a map of recreational sites in Black Hills National Forest.

He has shared pictures of himself visiting many of those sites.  Above, Spearfish Canyon in the northern part of the National Forest.

Here he is hiking the Mickelson Trail, which runs the entire length of the National Forest from north to south.

We end with a sunset rear view of our hiker at Pactola Lake in the Black Hills National Forest.

I’ve heard that the “butt” picture of Mt Rushmore is commonly named as “from the Canadian side”!
As always great pics and commentary. Thank you!

Which makes no sense as it's South Dakota.

I just wonder if he's really a local? South Dakota is a pretty conservative place; you'd have to look under a microscope to find a nudist. There's a lot of nudity among Sturgis tourists, and there is skinny dipping and the like, but not really a lot of public nudity, even in gay-friendly spaces, where they exist.
