Events - Part 41

Junior Mr. America

The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) sponsored the bodybuilding contest called Mr. America.  Another AAU contest was called Junior Mr. America.  Contestants wore skimpy briefs but were not nude.  However, several of the winners, proud of their bodies, posed nude outside the contest.  We've already seen a few of them who also won the Mr. America contest.  But others here are new.

Above is the 1942 Junior Mr. America winner Kimon Voyages, photographed by Earle Forbes.  I got this photo, and all the other photos in this post except one, from my friend Jerry's blog Vintage Muscle Men.

This is 1950 Junior Mr. America winner John Farbotnik, photographed by Al Urban.  Farbotnik also won the Mr. America contest in 1950.  It is unclear to me what the criteria for entering the two contests were, since a bodybuilder like Farbotnik could enter both contests.

This is 1951 winner George Paine, photographed by Lon of New York.

This is 1955 winner Vic Siepke.

This is the 1958 winner in the West category, Ray Routledge.  That year, there were winners in three categories, East, West, and Masters.

This is 1959 winner Elmo Santiago, photographed by Lon of New York.  This is the only photo in today's post that I didn't get from Vintage Muscle Men.  I got this photo from the Vintage Male Physique blog.  Thanks, Alan!

This is 1961 winner in the West category, Franklin Jones, photographed by Athletic Model Guild.

This is 1970 winner Chris Dickerson in the AMG shower.  Dickerson also won the Mr. America contest in 1970.

We end with 1978 winner in the Medium category, Tony Pearson.  That year, there were three categories: tall, medium, and short.  Pearson also won the Mr. America contest in 1978.

Thanks again to my friend Jerry for all the great photos from his blog Vintage Muscle Men.

Ah, those were the days of the full bush. So thankful that these men agreed to pose totally nude. Wonderful to see.
