Instruments - Part 30

 Harmonica

The harmonica is practically never used in orchestras and classical music, and it's not used much in rock music, but it has a definite place in American folk music.  Above is a short clip of naked musician Tomokazu Beverly Hills Maeda playing the beginning of Bob Dylan's Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues.  Unfortunately, his guitar is hiding everything

This painting is Blonde with Harmonica by artist Christopher Shellhammer.  Shellhammer isn't hiding anything, but his art is better than his English, because females are blonde and males are blond (with no "e").

More nude harmonica art: Munklaverspelaren (The Harmonica Player) by Eugene Jansson (1862-1915).

This naked harmonica player is named Tony Merlot.

Here's another view of Tony.

The harmonica is also called the mouth organ, a fact not lost on the maker of this novelty harmonica dating from the mid-20th century.

This is the cover art of a single recording called Mouth Organ Playing by God and Eve.  The mouth organ is referred to in the lyrics, but it's not actually played in the song.  The musicians God and Eve are actually named Richard and Eva and are based in Prague and Bratislava.  This cover is a photo of God's (Richard's) butt.  If you're wondering why there's light shining out of his butt, well, he's God, what did you expect?

Actually, the image was a negative.  Here's the positive image.  So, now you can say you've seen God's butt.

We end with The Motorcycle Song by folk singer Arlo Guthrie, a song that uses a harmonica.  I coupled the song with a video of a naked ride by a motorcycle club in Santa Cruz, California in 2014.  I posted this video last year, but I thought you might not mind seeing and hearing it again.

It's one of the instruments I'm not fond of. The Harmonica, mind you. The mouth organ, well.... 🤣

Just to chime in with some harmonica asides. Yes, the instrument is, as a rule, excluded from classical music. But not completely. I have heard harmonicas in symphonic music, and it's great stuff. The following from the Wikipedia article about the harmonica: "The harmonica's versatility brought it to the attention of classical musicians during the 1930s. American Larry Adler was one of the first harmonica players to perform major works written for the instrument by the composers Ralph Vaughan Williams, Malcolm Arnold, Darius Milhaud, and Arthur Benjamin." The Vaughan Williams concerto is particularly nice. And more lore for you and your readers. I lived in Japan and picked up a lot of Japanese slang. The shakuhachi, a traditional vertical bamboo flute, an instrument with a beautiful, noble, and spiritual sound, is often thought of as a symbol for male oral sex. Comes from what it looks like being played. The female equivalent? You guessed it. The harmonica.

I never knew the difference between blond and blonde.

@SickoRicko - Rick, it's one of very few words with different gender endings in English, borrowed directly from French. Another one is fiancé vs fiancée.

Cock Rings are nice to look at but not a requirement, though.
