 Chris Lowell

Chris Lowell (born in 1984) is an actor best known for his roles in several TV series including Veronica Mars, Private Practice, Graves, and GLOW.  Surprisingly, he is also a serious photographer.  Above, a self-portrait.

This photo is called Christopher, Lake Rabun, GA, 2008.  It may be a self-portrait.

Chris started taking photographs at age 19 in his first acting job, a TV show called Life As We Know It.  He played a photographer for the school paper, and one of the show's creators gave him a Leica camera and showed him how to use it.  Chris just wandered around Vancouver and took a ton of photos, teaching himself how to be a photographer.

Chris' family owned a house on a lake in north Georgia where he and his friends grew up.  When his family sold the house in 2011, he went there for the final 31 days that they owned the house and took photo after photo, creating the series he calls Thirty-One Days.  Above is a photo from the series.

Another Thirty-One Days photo.  I guess it's a homemade hang glider, but it looks like one of the early failed flying experiments when people were trying to fly like a bird.

Another Thirty-One Days photo.  Chris has taken many nude photos, but this is the only one I can find that shows a penis.  I'd like to think it's a self-portrait, though it's not labeled.  (Disclosure: I brightened the photo a bit.)

Asked which of all his photos is his favorite, Chris picked this one from Thirty-One Days.  He said, "this photograph feels particularly representative of what I was feeling at the time ... 'So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.' "

By the way, that line that Chris was quoting ("So we beat on ...") is the last line of the novel The Great Gatsby.

Chris is still taking photos.  This 2020 photo is called The Window.

Since Chris Lowell is also a well-known actor, I have to show you a couple of scenes of him acting.  This is a shot from the TV show Graves where a woman comes in to wake him up and, pulling the sheet off of him, gets a surprise.
