College Streaking - Part 33

University of Chicago Polar Bear Run

Since 1983, the University of Chicago has celebrated a week-long festival in January called Kuviasungnerk or just Kuvia.

Kuviasungnerk is an Inuit (Eskimo) word that means "the pursuit of happiness." The festival is an attempt to chase away winter blues.

Each year, the festival ends with the Polar Bear Run, streaking across the university's Main Quadrangle from the steps of Harper Memorial Library through Hull Gate on the other side.

Some wear underwear or shorts, but about half the runners are naked, aside from shoes.

Above, we see the Polar Bear Run in 2011, with one lone guy bringing up the rear.

These are some runners in 2013.

More 2013 runners.

We end with a short video of the 2013 Polar Bear Run.  View it full-screen for more detail.  The runners in the last two photos can be seen at about 17 seconds and 26 seconds.

Here's to kuviasungnerk (the pursuit of happiness)!

Pretty to watch but I wouldn't want to run naked in the cold.

Looks like fun! Being naked is always a good way to chase happiness!
