Gunnison Beach, New Jersey
We previously saw this photo of a guy posing with a sign at Gunnison Beach, New Jersey.
Gunnison, sometimes referred to as Sandy Hook, is the only nude beach in New Jersey. New Jersey state law allows towns and counties to prohibit nudity on beaches, and they do, but Sandy Hook is part of the Gateway National Recreation Area, which is Federal land, so state and local regulations don't apply.
Located right outside New York City, it can get quite crowded on a nice day.
But it's large enough that there are also empty stretches of sand.
Beach volleyball. In the background, you can see the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge that connects Staten Island to Brooklyn.
Here's a better view of the bridge, and of something else.
And here's a view of the Manhattan skyline across the bay. Sandy Hook is a hook-shaped peninsula to the southeast of New York harbor, so although we're in New Jersey, we're looking at Manhattan from the east, not the west. That's lower Manhattan at the left and the Empire State Building at the center.
On July 10, 2010, Gunnison Beach participated in an attempt to set a record for the largest number of people skinny-dipping simultaneously in multiple locations, for the Guinness Book of World Records. The event was sponsored by the American Association for Nude Recreation. A total of 14,110 people skinny-dipped at over a hundred locations.

My kind of beach - even if the Atlantic is c-c-c-cold.
Thank you for this! Jerry has been there since he's a native of NYC.
Gunnision (beach or section G) is one of the sections of beach on Sandy Hook, it's not the entire Hook, nor is it the only bathing place there.
I live about an hour away, and have been going to Gunnison since 2009. While Gunnison is beautiful, I have seen a major change over the years. Ten or twelve years ago, there was a distinct "gay section" of the beach, which even straight males didn't mind settling in for the day. But over the years, the gay section has been whittled down to a very tiny bit of real estate, as females and straight couples began making themselves at home. As a gay man, I feel that something has been lost.
As JimBoylan2 noted above, Gunnison is just one beach on Sandy Hook. The Hook runs about 5-6 miles out into the Atlantic, and there are about 10 beaches all around. Only Gunnison is "clothing optional." The Hook is a great place to bike, run or jog, rollerblade, sail, etc. I love biking, and catching sight of shirtless guys out for their run.
Thx for all the pics, Larry. I examined them closely to see if I was among the crowd. Thankfully, you are all spared that vision ... LOL.
