Hiking - Part 17

Arches National Park

Arches National Park in southern Utah is a great place to visit, especially if you can hike some of the many trails that take you to the spectacular rock arches for which the park is named.

A naked hiker resting by the park's most famous arch, Dellcate Arch, above.  It's high above ground level, and it can only be reached by a trail that winds around the side of a cliff (I've been there).  However, the trail is wide and not dangerous.

Another naked hiker sitting at the base of Delicate Arch.

And now he's giving us a rear view.  I think these guys went there in the early morning (as you can see by his shadow) to avoid other people on this popular trail.

John Defeo standing under Navajo Arch, above.  It was presumably carved through the rock fin by a stream in the past.

Here are a couple of hikers atop an arch in the Devil's Garden section of the park.

Rock climber Drew Thayer climbed Argon Tower, a 270-foot-tall rock spire in the park.

Drew did the climb naked except for his climbing gear.  Woo hoo!

Here's John Defeo again in another part of the park.  He says, "Being naked in beautiful places helps me have a more exciting and memorable experience in the landscape. You should try it!"

Several years ago a scout master took a few kids from his troop and deliberately destroyed an arch. Some people just are not satisfied allowing natural beauty to exist.

I think you’re referring to an incident in 2014 when three Boy Scout leaders (without the kids) toppled over a balanced rock in Goblin Valley State Park, Utah (I’ve been there). The idiots posted a video of it on Facebook along with their names. They were charged with a felony, but escaped jail time in a plea deal. In my opinion they should have been jailed as a warning to other idiots.

In 2018, someone posted a video of an arch in Utah being exploded, but nobody could identify the arch, and experts later determined that it was an extremely realistic computer-generated fake.
