Summer Solstice (continued)

Hike Naked Day

Another summer solstice tradition is Hike Naked Day.  The idea seems to have started on the Appalachian Trail, where all of today's pictures were taken, but it has spread across the country.  This is Tyler Gruszewski on the Appalachian Trail on Hike Naked Day in 2009.

A group of hikers did a naked solstice hike on the Appalachian Trail in Vermont in 2013.  The dog isn't ashamed to be naked.  Why should humans be ashamed?

An unashamed guy in that group in Vermont.  By the way, public nudity is perfectly legal in Vermont, as long as you don't engage in "lewd and lascivious behavior."

This is Danny Strayer on the Appalachian Trail in New Hampshire on the solstice in 2018.

We end with this group on McAfee Knob, a viewpoint on the Appalachian Trail in Virginia.  I'm not sure what they're doing.  The hokey pokey?

You put your left foot in
You take your left foot out
You put your left foot in
And you shake it all about
You do the hokey pokey
And you turn yourself around
That's what it's all about

On Hike Naked Day, naked hiking is what it's all about.

The days surrounding the Solstice are days I purposely get out of bed before the sun rises over the easternmost mountains. It's a sad day for me...because now the daylight hours dwindle.
