Photographers - Part 3

 Arthur Tress

Arthur Tress, born in 1940, is an American photographer known for his use of male nudes in surreal, sometimes disturbing images.  This is a self--portrait when he was young.

HIs photos often use objects as props to remove us from our everyday world.  This is called The Music Lesson.

This is The Gardener's Fantasy, Cold Spring, NY, 1977.

This is Riding Dick, 1977.

The Ledger Book, 1980, is one of a series photographed in the same setting.

This is Driving Miss Daisy, 1977.

Did you ever think your jeans could stand up on their own because they hadn't been washed in so long?  Here's Tress' realization of that fantasy, Nude with Jeans, 1980.

I have many more of Tress' surrealistic photos, so we will probably see him again.

Loving his work. And it's obvious where some of today's photographers got their inspiration....unless there are even older, similar photos out there somewhere.

My faves are driving Miss Daisy and Riding Dick. The latter is original and fun, don't you think?

Arthur Tress is a very unique individual.. Me and my boyfriend at the time posed for him back in 1996 and appeared in his "Male of the Species: Four Decades of Photography by Arthur Tress" A great experience for sure..
