The Purist
by Ogden Nash
I give you now Professor Twist,
A conscientious scientist.
(Above, a professor at the University of Barcelona.)
Trustees exclaimed, "He never bungles!"
And sent him off to distant jungles.
Camped on a tropic riverside,
One day he missed his loving bride.
She had, the guide informed him later,
Been eaten by an alligator.
Professor Twist could not but smile.
"You mean," he said, "a crocodile."
(Above: B-24 Squadron in Australia by LIFE photographer George Silk, 1943. And yes, that's a crocodile.)

Great photo by George Silk (1943). With that crocodile in the foreground, those soldiers are truly "naked and unafraid."
You're so clever.
Thanks, Rick. I'm just having a bit of fun.
I'm curious about the context of the naked professor...
