Beach Bums - Part 62

 Orient Beach, Saint Martin

The Caribbean island of St. Martin is divided between two countries.  The southern half, called Sint Maarten, is owned by the Netherlands, and the northern half, called Saint Martin, is owned by France.

There is one official nude beach on the island, Orient Beach, in the French part of the island.  Above is a poster for a naturist resort called Club Orient next to the beach, with two visitors, Jimmie and Susie, imitating the figures on the billboard.

Orient Beach is a beautiful beach over a thousand feet long.  The northern half of the beach, behind the "Nudity is Prohibited" sign, does not allow nudity, but the southern half of the beach, which is behind us in this photo and next to the Club Orient resort, is a nude beach.

Beach visitors can use the beach umbrellas to ward off the tropical sun ...

and read a book ...

or bask in the sun ...

or go for a dip in the clear water protected by a coral reef ...

with sailboats just offshore, which this guy seems to find quite exciting.

Club Orient was a naturist resort, so its guests could walk around the premises naked, including the restaurant.  This 2014 photo was labeled "Too early for breakfast."

Then in 2017, Hurricane Irma devastated the island and wrecked the Club Orient resort.  Above is what remains of the restaurant building.  The resort has still not been rebuilt.  This photo was taken in 2022.

However, some things have recovered.  A nude beach bar called Perch Bar & Grill has reopened.  This guard shack behind Orient Beach has been colorfully repainted with a gender-inclusive theme.
